THE BIRTH OF THE ASTHMA SKIN

“When I was younger, I was always embarrassed about having asthma, especially when I had to use my Ventolin at school,” says Valentine.

“For my first product, I wanted to create a “SKIN” for asthma puffers that was aesthetic and practical – something you wouldn’t be embarrassed about carrying in public and something to fit in with most people’s lifestyles. Being ‘practical but presentable’ was my main focus when creating the SKIN.”

“The great thing about the Asthma Skin is that it takes away the fear factor of forgetting your puffer or not finding it in the bottom of a bag when you really need it,” says Valentine. “For me, it is all about reinforcing a positive mindset and turning a negative into a positive.”

The new Asthma Skins are crafted from soft, vegan leather, come in two designs and a range of gorgeous colours. They are designed to clip onto any type of bags, school bags, sports bags, handbags or even clothing like jeans.

Valentine has also reinvented traditional medical jewellery with a small range of beautiful pendants and a bracelet that feature the Universal Medical Emblem. “The pieces are created in 18kt gold vermeil and feature the Universal Medical Emblem and are decorated with a white topaz,” says Valentine. “This jewellery does two things: it signifies that you have a medical condition, but it looks great at the same time. There is also room on the back of the pendants to have them engraved with your medical issue.”

“Whilst having a medical ‘issue’ is debilitating, it does not have to be embarrassing. I empathise with you, that no one will understand what it feels like, how you’ve suffered, and currently how you’re recovering – but it is important to me that you do this with confidence! Not only is tac. a shop, a site of knowledge and assistance, but a community. So please join me, in the growth of tac, our recovery and being confident in your own SKIN”.
